There is somewhat of a new iPhone app  you can get from the iTunes store that allows you to look through the camera on your phone and see the words on a sign, menu, flyer, etc., translated into a new language.  The app is called Word Lens and you can check it out HERE.

I couldn’t believe it was actually real.  Have you ever seen anything like it?

I hope you had a great summer!  Remeber to let me know if I can do anything for you.

Six Easy Tips For Healthy Summer Living

Summer brings with it abundant sunshine, fresh foods and fun activities which is why the season inspires many people to be happy and healthy.

Chelsie Hightower, the Emmy-nominated professional dancer from the hit show “Dancing with the Stars,” has put together some healthy lifestyle tips:

1. Make healthy meal choices. “I personally love sushi. Fish and vegetables are essential for my weekly protein, and it’s even healthier with brown rice,” says Hightower.

2. Hop in a steam bath. After working out, steam helps relax sore muscles and boost your immune system.

3. Use summer as a reason to try new activities. Take hikes, go swimming, or learn yoga.

4. Keep a food journal. Once you see everything you eat written down in front of you, it’s easier to make more realistic goals and changes.

5. Dance to your own beat. Realize that no two body types are the same and what works on others won’t necessary work for you.

6. Make healthy food more interesting with unique and delicious recipes. ”I enjoy finding recipes online and then trying them at home. Old London has some great recipes on their Facebook page,” Hightower says.

And while you’re out enjoying the nice weather, don’t hesitate to contact us here at Realty World Premier Associates if you’d like to do some summer-time home shopping as well.  Many home prices in the Lodi, Stockton and surrounding Central Valley areas are making mortgage payments even lower than what you’re paying for rent right now.

Lord of The Flies?

Last summer during our annual family reunion, my cousin Jeanne put out some zip lock baggies with water and a few pennies in each of them on the picnic tables.  She said she heard/read that it keeps the flies away.

Rrriiiight.  :-/

Well, this morning she sent me an email with some comments from people online that confirm her ‘home remedy’ of ridding your area of pesky flies. ( I can’t stand flies!)  Let me know if you try this at home or anywhere and if you notice a difference.  Here are a few of those comments…

ZIP LOCK BAG – Good tip!

We went with friends to Sweety Pies on Sunday for breakfast and sat in the patio section beside the house.   We happened to notice zip lock baggies pinned to a post and a wall.  The bags were half filled with water, each contained 4 pennies, and they were zipped shut.  Naturally we were curious!  Ms. Sweety told us that these baggies kept the flies away!  So naturally we were even more curious!  We actually watched some flies come in the open window, stand around on the window sill, and then fly out again.  And there were no flies in the eating area!  This morning I checked this out on Google.  Below are comments on this fly control idea.  I’m now a believer!

Ann Says:
I tried the ziplock bag and pennies this weekend.. I have a horse trailer.  The flies were bad while I was camping. I put the baggie with pennies above the door of the LQ. NOT ONE FLY came in the trailer.  The horse trailer part had many. Not sure why it works but it does!

Danielle Says:
Fill a ziplock bag with water and 5 or 6 pennies and hang it in the problem area. In my case it was a particular window in my home. It had a slight passage way for insects. Every since I have done that, it has kept flies and wasps away. Some say that wasps and flies mistake the bag for some other insect nest and are threatened.

Maggie Says:
I swear by the plastic bag of water trick. I have them on porch and basement.  We saw these in  Northeast Mo.  at an Amish grocery store & have used them since. They say it works because a fly sees a reflection & won’t come around.

DJ Says:
Regarding the science behind zip log bags of water? My research found that the millions of molecules of water presents its own prism effect and given that flies have a lot of eyes, to them it’s like a zillion disco balls reflecting light, colors and movement in a dizzying manner. When you figure that flies are prey for many other bugs, animals, birds, etc., they simply won’t take the risk of being around that much perceived action. I moved to a rural area and thought these “hillbillies” were just yanking my city boy chain but I tried it and it worked immediately! We went from hundreds of flies to seeing the occasional one, but he didn’t hang around long.

Here’s to a pesky, fly-free Spring and Summer for you and your family.

Thank you Jeanne!

A Day in the Zone – Weekend Fun

I took the family out for the day on Saturday the 26th to the 13th Annual Day in the Zone concert in Sacramento, and what a day it was.  I think the ‘zone’ we were all in was the HEAT ZONE!  The high temperature forecast for the day was 103 degrees.  I think that’s what it was in the shade.

In spite of the heat the performers were all great and put on a really good performance.  I’m sure they were all hot as well.  Howie Day started off the concert, followed by Colbie Caillat, then Hoobastank, and the closing act belonged to Train.

Colbie Caillat

This was the first concert I had been to in a long time.  Especially an outdoor concert.  I’ve attended some indoor performances to see Boyz to Men, David Lee Roth, Dido, and even some of my favorite comedians like Howie Mandel and Jerry Steinfeld.

The outing was to celebrate our friend Keith Burgad of Burgad Imaging in Lodi turning 40 years old.  Happy Birthday Keith!

One of our friends that also attended was Tamera of iSpiProperties, which is a real estate investor client of mine.  I have helped her find and purchase two properties in Stockton recently that she has completely remodeled inside and out.  You can view one of those properties here on my site.  It’s located at 8339 N. Pershing Ave.

We took four of our children and one of their friends to make it a real ‘family outing’, and they sure had fun!  There was a Kids Zone with giant inflatable slides, bounce houses, etc.  There was even a firetruck there that would occasionally turn on their main water cannon to cool down not only the kids, but anyone that was looking for a quick way to cool down.  Our kids really loved that part.

There was good food, plenty of drinking water, great friends and of course great entertainment.  In spite of the blistering heat it was a really great day.

I hope you all had a good weekend as well, and found ways to stay cool.  Be sure to stay hydrated on the hotter days by drinking extra water.  Remember to not drink any sugary beverages because they’ll only make you more thirsty.
